About MECA Calgary
Our story, our mission, and the people who make it happen.
Our History
The Manyu Elements Cultural Association (MECA) Calgary was founded by a passionate group of Cameroonians from the Manyu Division who settled in Calgary, Alberta. Driven by a desire to preserve their cultural identity and support one another in a new land, they came together to form an association that serves as a home away from home.
Over the years, MECA Calgary has grown into a vibrant community of hundreds of members across Calgary and beyond. We organize cultural festivals, fundraising events, educational programs, and provide support to members during important life events.
Rooted in the traditions of the Ejagham, Banyang, and Keaka peoples of the Manyu Division, we remain committed to our motto: "Solidarity and Empowerment."
Our Mission
To unite, empower and celebrate the Manyu people of Calgary through culture, community support, and shared identity.
Our Vision
A strong, self-reliant Manyu community in Calgary that is proud of its heritage and contributes positively to Canadian society.
